Giancarlo Stanton simply cannot be stopped.
The Miami Marlins outfielder continued his torrid pace in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader in Philadelphia - and he did so in record fashion. Stanton laced a bullet over the right-field wall off Aaron Nola for his 46th home run of the season and his 13th big fly in the month of August, to set a new Marlins record for home runs in any month.
The previous Marlins record of 12 homers in a single month was accomplished four times in franchise history. Dan Uggla did it in May of 2008, and Stanton himself hit 12 in a month three times - most recently in July of this year.
Stanton's blast also made him the first National League slugger to hit at least 46 home runs in a season since Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols both reached the mark in 2009, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
