Judge's record strikeout streak ends at 37 games
Aaron Judge's streak of futility is no more.
The New York Yankees slugger's MLB-record streak of 37 consecutive games with at least one strikeout came to an end when he was lifted for pinch-hitter Jacoby Ellsbury in the seventh inning of Tuesday night's game at Comerica Park.
New York was leading the Detroit Tigers 11-1 at the time Judge was removed.
Judge finished his evening a perfect 1-for-1 with an RBI, two walks, and three runs scored.
The 25-year-old has emerged as a superstar for the Yankees this summer, but has gone into a prolonged slump since the All-Star Game - a slide that's been highlighted by his record streak of strikeouts that eclipsed the previous mark held by Adam Dunn. Over the course of the ignominious streak dating back to July 8, Judge hit just .176 with a .687 OPS, seven homers, and nine extra-base hits, while striking out 63 times.
Despite his prolonged slump, Judge remains both a legitimate MVP candidate and the front-runner for AL Rookie of the Year honors, as he still leads Junior Circuit hitters in home runs (37), runs (91), and walks (93).
