Report: Kinsler was fined $10,000 for comments about Angel Hernandez
Ian Kinsler may not have been suspended for making comments about umpire Angel Hernandez, but his bank account certainly took a hit.
Nearly a week after Kinsler said Hernandez should find a different job following his own ejection from a game for questioning balls and strikes, ESPN's Buster Olney reported the Detroit Tigers second baseman was fined $10,000.
The fine apparently rubbed Tigers manager Brad Ausmus the wrong way, as he said "it's a level almost unheard of in fine for players," according to Olney.
The Kinsler-Hernandez situation drew serious attention over the past week, as major-league umpires issued a statement about the comments while calling Kinsler's fine - and his lack of a suspension - too lenient.
Umpires wore white wristbands during games last Saturday in protest of "abusive player behavior," but decided to end the display after commissioner Rob Manfred agreed to meet with their union.
MLB also notified the umpires in writing that the wristband protest would lead to fines, according to Olney.
Kinsler is making $11 million this season.
