Mark Melancon is set to pitch in his first major-league game in over a month, as the San Francisco Giants announced Saturday they have activated the right-hander off the disabled list.

To make room for Melancon, the club placed rookie second baseman Miguel Gomez on the 10-day DL with right knee inflammation.

"It hasn’t been easy. It hasn't been fun," Melancon told John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday. "It's been a tough (time) on the DL. So, yeah, I'm excited to get out there and get going."

Melancon last appeared for the Giants on June 27 against the Colorado Rockies, pitching the ninth inning in an eventual 14-inning, 4-3 win. The following day, however, the Giants placed Melancon on the 10-day DL with a right pronator strain in his elbow.

The 32-year-old reliever is posting a 4.35 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 20 2/3 innings this season.
