With pending free agency on the horizon, right-hander Marco Estrada made up his mind quickly about where he wanted to pitch next season.
The 34-year-old right-hander has agreed to a one-year, $13-million extension to stay with the Blue Jays for 2018, the team announced.
Estrada has started 31 games this season, posting his highest ERA (4.84) since 2010 across 176 2/3 innings.
The one-time All-Star has been a reliable contributor to the Blue Jays' rotation since slotting into it in 2015. In 94 appearances - 88 starts - Estrada owns a 31-25 record alongside a 3.81 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. He's also hurled 533 2/3 innings for the club since arriving in a 2014 trade from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Over his 10-year career, the versatile Estrada has made 248 big-league appearances - 159 starts - for the Blue Jays, Brewers, and Washington Nationals.
Along with Estrada, Toronto's rotation is expected to include Marcus Stroman, Aaron Sanchez, and J.A. Happ next season.
