Rays acquire reliever Chaz Roe from Braves
The Tampa Bay Rays added to their bullpen depth by acquiring right-hander Chaz Roe from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for cash on Tuesday, the team announced.
Roe will join the Rays' Triple-A affiliate in Durham.
Tampa has been linked to a number of relief pitchers with higher profiles, such as Pat Neshek and Justin Wilson, so the addition of Roe could be a precursor to more deals.
The 30-year-old Roe made three appearances for the Braves earlier this season, posting a 9.00 ERA in two innings of work.
He has missed most of the season with a lat injury, coming off the 60-day disabled list last Friday before being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Over the course of his five-year career in the bigs, the former first-round pick is 7-2 with a 4.16 ERA in 93 games.
