Zack Wheeler has been bitten by the injury bug once again.
The New York Mets placed the right-hander on the 10-day disabled list with a stress reaction in his throwing arm. In a corresponding move, the team recalled pitcher Tyler Pill.
Wheeler missed all of the 2015 and 2016 campaigns recovering from Tommy John surgery and a flexor strain. He made his long-awaited return this season to a Mets rotation that has seen Noah Syndergaard, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, and Seth Lugo all hit the disabled list in 2017.
Prior to his most recent ailment, Wheeler pitched to a 5.27 ERA and 1.58 WHIP while amassing 81 strikeouts.
