Red Sox promote top prospect Rafael Devers

It looks like the Boston Red Sox won't be acquiring that "outside-the-box" third baseman via trade.

President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told reporters Sunday in Anaheim that the club has promoted top prospect Rafael Devers from Triple-A Pawtucket, according to Ryan Hannable of WEEI.

Dombrowski admitted that Dever's unexpected call up was due to an expensive and limited trade market for third baseman, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham.

Devers has been on a tear with the Pawtucket Red Sox since he was called up to Triple-A for the first time just over a week ago.

After slashing .300/.369/.575 with 18 home runs in 287 at-bats with Double-A Portland, Devers continued his impressive performance in Pawtucket where he's hitting .355/.412/.581 in 31 at-bats.

Devers, who's ranked 12th overall among prospects in MLB, will join the team Monday in Seattle, though he's not expected to start until Tuesday's contest against the Mariners, according to Abraham.
