The New York Yankees' issues at first base may come to an end soon.
New York is in discussions with the Oakland Athletics about acquiring All-Star first baseman Yonder Alonso, according to sources of Jon Morosi of MLB.com.
The rumor comes on the heels of a report from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports which mentioned that a top-level Athletics scout was watching the Yankees' Class-A affiliate in Charleston, S.C.
With the Yankees in desperate need of a first baseman, Alonso - who is a free agent at season's end and earning the remainder of a $4-million salary this year - seems like a perfect fit.
The Yankees began the season with Greg Bird as their everyday first baseman, but ankle surgery is expected to sideline the 24-year-old for another six weeks.
New York has used nine different players at first this season, and they've combined for 14 home runs, 40 RBIs, and a .686 OPS.
