The Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup took a substantial hit Saturday when an MRI on shortstop Corey Seager revealed a Grade 1 hamstring strain, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told MLB.com's Joshua Thornton Seager may be available for pinch-hitting duty, although he expects the young slugger to be out of the starting lineup for three-to-four days while the team determines if a stint on the disabled list is necessary.

"It would be a huge void when you're playing a premium defensive position," Roberts said, "and you lose your shortstop and arguably your best hitter, it's a big blow. We talked about the short view, the long view ... to put him in harm's way to potentially have him miss more than he needs to with a Grade 1 would be irresponsible."

The 2016 NL Rookie of the Year left the Dodgers' game Friday against the Colorado Rockies with what was first described by the team as a hamstring cramp.

Seager, 23, has been one of the team's best hitters over the past seven games, hitting .500/.593/1.000 with three home runs and eight RBIs.

Over the course of the 2017 campaign, Seager owns a .298/.403/.506 slash line with 12 home runs, 19 doubles, and 39 RBIs.

Kike Hernandez was written into the Dodgers' lineup at shortstop on Saturday with Seager out of action.
