Watch: Brewers prospect wins bizarre hidden-ball trick standoff

The waiting is the hardest part - but for Milwaukee Brewers prospect Lucas Erceg, waiting paid off big time.

Erceg, a third baseman with the Brewers' Single-A affiliate, the Carolina Mudcats, pulled off one of the more bizarre hidden-ball tricks in baseball history during Wednesday's Carolina League contest against the Buies Creek Astros. Buies Creek baserunner Kyle Tucker successfully stole third base, and Erceg then faked throwing the ball back to his pitcher, as is the pattern for a hidden-ball trick - except that Tucker saw what happened, and wouldn't leave the base.

Thus, a 35-second standoff ensued, delaying the game as Tucker refused to move from the safety of the bag while Erceg waited him out, ball in hand. But Tucker had to step off at some point, and unfortunately for him Erceg was ready and applied the tag for the successful hidden-ball trick - much to the dismay of Buies Creek manager Omar Lopez, who was tossed after arguing for a delay-of-game call.
