Syndergaard's MRI reveals partial tear in lat muscle
Even with the 2017 season moving into a new month, things aren't looking any better for the New York Mets.
On Monday, the Mets announced right-hander Noah Syndergaard would be placed on the 10-day disabled list after an MRI revealed a partial tear of his right lat muscle.
There is no timetable for his return, although teammate Steven Matz spent two months on the DL with a similar lat injury in 2015.
Rafael Montero is expected to start Friday against the Miami Marlins in place of Syndergaard, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, who reports there are no plans in place beyond that.
The 24-year-old Syndergaard left Sunday's contest against the Washington Nationals after just 1 1/3 innings, grabbing underneath his throwing arm in obvious pain.
After walking off the field with team training staff, he returned to New York to undergo the MRI.
The injury on Sunday to the man known as "Thor" came one day after he refused to undergo an MRI following a missed start with what was described as a "tired arm."
"I'm pretty in tune with my body," Syndergaard said when asked about refusing the test. "That's exactly why I refused to take the MRI. I knew there was nothing happening in there."

Syndergaard joins a long list of injured Mets, which already includes superstar outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, former franchise cornerstone David Wright, first baseman Lucas Duda, and Matz.
Prior to Sunday's start where he allowed five earned runs against Washington before getting lifted with the injury, Syndergaard was off to a fantastic start to the season, striking out 30 without allowing a walk across 26 innings.
