Brandon Finnegan's shoulder injury could see the Cincinnati Reds starter face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

After initial hopes that a strain in the trapezius muscle would keep Finnegan out for a limited amount of time, manager Bryan Price revealed he doesn't expect the 24-year-old to resume throwing for two-to-three weeks, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com.

Finnegan was removed from his last start after pitching just one inning against the Milwaukee Brewers with what was first reported as a strained lat muscle but what was later revealed to be a shoulder injury. Following the official diagnosis, the Reds opted to place Finnegan on the 10-day disabled list.

Finnegan started off his 2017 season strong, throwing seven shutout innings against the Philadelphia Phillies while striking out nine. The left-hander struggled to find the strike zone in his next start though, getting pulled after just two innings after giving up four hits and five walks.
