Ventura's mother to throw out first pitch at Royals' home opener

Marisol Hernandez, the mother of former Kansas City Royals starter Yordano Ventura who died in a car accident on Jan. 22 in the Dominican Republic, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the team's home opener on April 10.

Hernandez will be accompanied by her father, Raul, who confirmed with Maria Torres of the Kansas City Star they would be in attendance.

"God willing, that's where we'll be," Raul said through text message.

Additionally, the Royals will hold a moment of silence and present a video tribute in Ventura's honor.

The 25-year-old, who started for the club on Opening Day back in 2015, lost control of his vehicle in the city of Juan Adrian. Since his death, Royals teammates have been paying tribute to him by wearing patches with "Ace 30" on their jersey's in honor of the right-hander's nickname.
