The laws of physics apparently didn't apply in Thursday's game between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals.

In the top of the seventh with two out and the Red Birds leading 4-2, reliever Brett Cecil got pinch hitter Matt Szczur to swing at a pinch in the dirt.

That's when things got weird.

Eight-time Gold Glove award winning catcher Yadier Molina searched for the ball to toss Szczur out. The only problem was, the ball got wedged and stuck between Molina's chest protector.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the perplexing gaffe led to an eventual three-run home run from Kyle Schwarber, who destroyed a pitch to right field.
