Analysis:
The power-hitting prospect is vying to fill a major league roster spot created by Ian Desmond's (hand) absence, and he's certainly putting his best foot forward in doing so. Patterson has also logged a lot of time at first base this spring, even making a diving stop to get an out in Thursday's matchup with the Indians. He'll need to keep up this high level of play in order to fend off other competitors for the spot (such as Stephen Cardullo, Christhian Adames, and Pat Valaika), but Patterson's prospect pedigree and ability to play multiple positions in the field could serve him well in his quest to make the Opening Day roster.
