Watch: Mets' Cabrera tossed by home-plate ump after base hit
It's spring training for the players, but umpire Angel Hernandez is apparently in midseason form.
The notoriously prickly Hernandez was at it again while manning home plate during Thursday's New York Mets-Washington Nationals exhibition contest. After Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera exchanged words with Hernandez when he wasn't granted time, Cabrera stepped back in the box and promptly singled. Hernandez kindly let Cabrera run out his hit, before bizarrely choosing to give him the boot - only after Cabrera was standing on first base.
But Cabrera got the last laugh, as he had to cross the entire diamond from the dugout and exit to the clubhouse through the right-field corner, thereby delaying the game. And of course, he took his sweet time doing that.
Here's the Statcast metrics on Asdrubal Cabrera's long ejection walk out of the park. #Mets @MLBNetworkRadio (Per request by @HubsPhD) pic.twitter.com/2YjzQAJJEz
