Padres' Jarred Cosart: Bullpen an option
Cosart is currently competing for a rotation spot in San Diego, but he could end up as a reliever if he doesn't make the cut, AJ Casavell of MLB.com reports.
Analysis:
Cosart -- who underwent elbow surgery this past offseason -- had a season to forget in 2016, finishing with an ugly 6.00 ERA and more walks issued than strikeouts. The loose bodies in his elbow may have contributed to the poor results, but he never had extended periods of success as a starter prior to last season. If Cosart's arm is healthy and he can get his fastball velocity back into the mid-to-high 90s, then a move to the bullpen could help revive his career. As a starter, he won't have much fantasy value heading into the season.
