Report: Odor could be added to Venezuela's WBC roster
It appears team Venezuela is going to receive a fiery boost to its roster in the second half of the tournament.
Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor is the leading candidate to replace injured Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Freddy Galvis on the team's roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic, according to Gerry Fraley of Sports Day, who cites Venezuelan media reports.
Team Venezuela's manager Omar Vizquel told reporters Odor was the player he was coveting as Galvis' replacement and that Odor would join the team if they advanced to the second round in the tournament.
The team's general manager, longtime major-leaguer Carlos Guillen, made headlines when he opted against adding New York Mets infielder Asdrubal Cabrera to the roster. Cabrera expressed his anger through social media and told reporters he was deceived by Guillen after Vizquel ensured him he would be on the team.
When Venezuela opens the tournament on March 10 against Puerto Rico, Odor will join a group led by Jose Altuve, Victor Martinez, and Miguel Cabrera.
