Social media unleashes on Garza after abstinence tweet
If Matt Garza was seeking attention, he certainly got what he was looking for after posting a controversial tweet on social media late Thursday.
After actress Jessica Chastain tweeted her disgust over birth control not being covered by U.S. health insurance, the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher replied with his opinion, which infuriated a number of people.
#BirthControl is no longer covered by health insurance. Congrats USA, you're doing your part to keep women out of the work force. #smfh 😠

It's called abstinence, a word that has been forgotten amongst this generation... it's the best contraceptive... #juatsaying https://t.co/OgKg1qQmln

It took next to no time for Garza to receive backlash from fans for his words.
.@Gdeuceswild Yeahhh. How many ppl do you know who are abstinent? Don't lecture women about abstinence...especially when you had a kid at 18

@Gdeuceswild @jes_chastain educate yourself. Women take birth control for health reasons too. Not just to prevent pregnancy.

Garza didn't back down from confronting a Twitter user who attacked him personally, either.
@Gdeuceswild LOL an idiot who had a kid at 18 lecturing about abstinence. If idiot was not a pro BB plyer we would be supporting his kids

The 33-year-old is set to enter his 12th big-league season in 2017.
He'll earn $12.5 million in what could be the last year of a four-year, $52-million contract he signed with the Brewers in January of 2014.
Over the course of the deal, Garza has given Milwaukee 72 starts, while fashioning a 20-30 record with a 4.57 ERA.
