The Texas Rangers reportedly agreed to a minor-league deal worth $110,000 with Cuban infielder Luis Yander La O on Wednesday, a source told Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com.
La O was declared a free agent by Major League Baseball in January of last year and was one of the most notable Cuban free agents available. He was considered an unrestricted free agent and thus exempt from the international bonus pool.
The 24-year-old last played professionally in the Cuban National League in 2014. In six seasons in Cuba, he hit .329/.388/.406 with nine home runs, 47 doubles, and 57 stolen bases over 347 games while seeing time at second base, third base, and occasionally shortstop.
