In what was expected to be a quiet next couple of days as Major League Baseball heads into Thanksgiving, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners opted to shake things up with a blockbuster deal late Wednesday night.
The Diamondbacks shipped middle infielder Jean Segura, outfielder Mitch Haniger, and left-hander Zac Curtis to the Pacific Northwest in exchange for right-hander Taijuan Walker and shortstop Ketel Marte.
Both sides are accepting some risk in the trade. Segura was exceptional last season, but managed an OPS of just .615 in the two years prior. Walker has plenty of upside, but is 19-19 with a 4.41 ERA in 304 innings since 2015.
