Korean star Hwang works out in front of 20 MLB teams
With the open market for infielders not offering a whole lot of options, Major League Baseball clubs could take a different approach in their search for help in free agency, which a number of teams appeared to do on Monday.
Korean infielder Jae-Gyun Hwang, who is described by Fox Sports' Jon Morosi as the "top position player expected to come from Asia to MLB this offseason," held a showcase in front of 20 teams at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Hwang spent the last seven seasons with the Lotte Giants of the Korean Baseball Organization, hitting .330/.391/.558 with 26 home runs, 22 doubles, and 104 RBIs in 2016.
The 29-year-old also finished second on the club in OPS (.949) and stolen bases (24), and led the team in total bases with 259.
Hwang - who is better suited to play third base - was posted last offseason, but didn't earn a bid.
