Report: Cardinals won't make qualifying offer to Moss
If Brandon Moss walks away from St. Louis, it's highly likely the Cardinals won't get anything in return.
The first baseman/outfielder will reportedly not be tendered a $17.2-million qualifying offer by the Cardinals, according to ESPN's Mark Saxon. As a result, St. Louis won't receive draft-pick compensation should he sign elsewhere this winter.
It's likely the decision not to qualify Moss will end his Cardinals career, Saxon reported.
Moss, acquired by St. Louis at the 2015 trade deadline, began the 2016 season on a tear before falling into a prolonged slump during the second half: He hit .191/.248/.392 after the All-Star break, and posted a stunning .099 average in 91 September at-bats. The 33-year-old finished his season with a .225/.300/.484 slash line and 28 home runs.
Across 10 big-league seasons with six different teams, Moss owns a .241/.319/.455 career line with 138 home runs and 840 strikeouts.
