The Miami Marlins traveled to Nationals Park on Friday to conclude the last series of their 2016 campaign, and the Washington Nationals did something special to welcome them.

Washington honored pitcher Jose Fernandez, who died Sunday in a boating accident.

The Nationals hung a Fernandez jersey in their dugout and put a No. 16 on their mound.

An emotional Gio Gonzalez, who attended Fernandez's funeral Thursday, tipped his cap to his recently deceased friend during a pregame ceremony.
