Marlins honor Fernandez after final home game
Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports
It was the Miami Marlins' last home game of the season, and they weren't leaving without saying goodbye.
After losing 5-2 to the New York Mets, Miami players flocked to the mound to honor Jose Fernandez one last time at Marlins Park before hitting the road to end the season.
Fernandez was killed in a boating accident early Sunday morning. He had his memorial service on Wednesday, and Thursday will be his funeral.
Following the game, Marlins players threw shirts in the bleachers to honor Fernandez.
