The American League West champion Texas Rangers are on the verge of adding a strong piece to their roster ahead of the postseason.
Manger Jeff Banister said Wednesday that injured outfielder Shin-Soo Choo's rehab has been accelerated, and that he's nearing a return after breaking his wrist and forearm last month.
"I believe that we can get him back by this weekend and see where he's at," Banister told MLB Network Radio.
After Choo's left wrist was struck by a pitch in mid-August, a plate was inserted near the break during surgery. He was initially expected to miss the rest of the season.
The 34-year-old has been limited to just 45 games this season, after battling back, hamstring, and calf ailments in addition to his wrist. He's hitting .247/.369/.416 with seven home runs, seven doubles, and six stolen bases.
