Mariners' Shawn O'Malley: Gets day off Sunday
O'Malley is out of the lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays.
Analysis:
With Ketel Marte dealing with a case of mononucleosis that resulted in his placement on the DL on Saturday, O'Malley has stepped in as the Mariners' primary shortstop. He's gone 4-for-17 with a pair of walks and a stolen base while starting each of the previous five games, but he'll get a day off in the series finale as manager Scott Servais gives Luis Sardinas a chance to make a spot start. O'Malley still figures to assume the bulk of the starts at shortstop until Marte returns.
