Beau Myers to serve as big brother Wil's HR Derby pitcher

It'll be a special moment for the Myers household when Wil Myers steps up to the plate in Monday's Home Run Derby.

Standing just over 60 feet from the San Diego Padres first baseman will be his younger brother, Beau, who will be tasked with offering up meatballs for his older sibling to crush beyond the fence at Petco Park.

"Words can't even describe it. It's amazing. It's an amazing opportunity - him being in the All-Star Game and selected for the Home Run Derby - and it’s a dream come true for my brother and my family and me," the younger Myers told Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union Tribune.

Beau, a freshman outfielder at Appalachian State in North Carolina, will need to perform in front of tens of thousands of more people than he's used to in college, but the 19-year-old isn't going to let his nerves dictate his pitching performance.

"Yes and no," the 19-year-old said, according to Sanders, when asked about being nervous. "I know when I get out there I’ll be fine. Whenever they call Wil’s name out and he walks to the plate and I go out to the mound, I feel like I’ll be a little nervous.

Once I throw that first pitch I’ll be ready to go."

Wil, meanwhile, will need Beau to be on point with his delivery, as he faces off against Cincinnati Reds slugger Adam Duvall in the first round.
