Toronto Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion has decided to drop the appeal of his one-game suspension for making contact with home-plate umpire Vic Carapazza on July 1, and will serve the ban Sunday against the Detroit Tigers.
The suspension came in the first inning of the 19-inning marathon against the Cleveland Indians. The Tribe came out on top 2-1.
Encarnacion was chased after he was rung up on a pitch that clipped the outer part of the plate. He instantly whipped his bat down and began arguing.
On the same play, manager John Gibbons came out to argue, and he too was ejected.
