Mets' Bartolo Colon: Whiffs season-high eight in win over Pirates
Colon (6-3) struck out a season-high eight hitters over 7.2 strong frames in a win against the Pirates on Thursday. He allowed two runs on seven hits without a walk.
Analysis:
The Pirates couldn't get anything going against the old man until Matt Joyce slugged a homer off Colon to open the eighth inning. Indeed, Colon just keeps on trucking, having lowered his season ERA to a shiny 3.01 to go along with a sparkling 4.31 K/BB. He's put a couple rough starts in mid-May well behind him now, having given up two or fewer runs in five consecutive outings. Colon's next start is scheduled for Wednesday against the Royals.
