Giles' quotes featured on monitor in Rangers' clubhouse
Ken Giles' comments are available for all the Texas Rangers to see.
After giving up a walk-off hit to Rougned Odor on Monday night, the Houston Astros reliever said his club would "put (the Rangers) to the ground." A day later, his words were plastered on a two-screen monitor in the Rangers' clubhouse, according to the Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant.
Regardless of Giles' tough words, his numbers reflect a less daunting figure. This season he owns a 5.76 ERA, giving up 16 runs and four homers. He's already given up more blasts this season than he has in his two previous seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.
So when Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus saw the words staring at him prior to Tuesday's matchup, he shrugged at the idea that an opponents' quotes were in his clubhouse.
"You talk that way against another team that's pretty much playing better than your team, I think the best idea is to just shut up and play," Andrus told reporters.
This season, the clubs are having polar opposite seasons.
Texas is sitting pretty atop the American League West, while the Astros are eight games back of the Rangers.
