Pirates' AJ Schugel: Called up to replace Vogelsong (face)
Schugel was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.
Analysis:
Schugel has already spent about a month with the Pirates this season but was sent back to Triple-A earlier in the month. He'll now return to the big league club to fill the spot of Ryan Vogelsong, who hit the DL on Tuesday due to facial fractures. Schugel figures to slot into a middle relief role for Pittsburgh, where he holds a 4.96 ERA across 11 appearances this season.
