Indians' Joba Chamberlain (chest muscle) on disabled list
CHICAGO (AP) The Cleveland Indians have placed reliever Joba Chamberlain on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left chest muscle, putting on hold his turnaround season.
Left-hander Ryan Merritt was recalled from Triple-A Columbus before Tuesday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox.
Manager Terry Francona said Chamberlain has had a sore side and the pain was more pronounced after he pitched Saturday in Boston. The 30-year-old right-hander has a 1.93 ERA in 14 appearances with 15 strikeouts and six walks.
Chamberlain was released by Detroit and Toronto last season before finishing 2015 with Kansas City, where he had a 7.94 ERA in six games.
Chamberlain made the Indians' roster out of spring training.
