David Ortiz was likely only a couple of inches away from completing the first cycle of his career.
With only a triple remaining in his bid Sunday against the Cleveland Indians, Ortiz smoked a shot into Fenway Park's triangle in the eighth inning that looked good for the missing three-bagger. That is, until an unlucky bounce off the center-field wall spun his ball into the seats for a ground-rule double.
At the very least, Ortiz can take solace in netting his first perfect day of the season, going 4-for-4 with a home run, single, and two doubles in Boston's 5-2 win over Cleveland. But still, that one hurts.
