Watch: Harvey serves up 2nd career leadoff HR
Adam Hunger / USA TODAY Sports
After watching Matt Harvey unload 101 pitches just to make it through five innings against the hapless Atlanta Braves last week, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson remarked that the 27-year-old right-hander "needs some confidence right now."
This probably won't help.
For the second time in his career, Harvey surrendered a home run Wednesday in his first plate appearance of the night, with Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart depositing a 2-1 breaking ball from Harvey into the left-field seats to give his club an early 1-0 advantage. Jimmy Rollins, the three-time All-Star and former MVP, is the only other playoff to smack a leadoff homer off Harvey, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
