Stanton victimizes Kershaw for go-ahead blast
The Los Angeles Dodgers' one-run lead seemed more than safe with Clayton Kershaw on the mound. But then Giancarlo Stanton happened.
In the sixth inning with the Miami Marlins down 3-2, Stanton stepped up to the dish with two men on, and found a pitch he liked. Stanton blasted the 1-0 pitch over the center-field wall for the three-run homer.
"You don't want their best hitter to beat you, and that's what happened today," Kershaw explained to reporters in postgame comments. "We had a 3-0 lead. My job is to keep it, and I didn't do my job there. Got to do a better job limiting the damage. I obviously missed my spot with Stanton, and that's what he does, makes you pay for stuff like that."
After a lull in which he went deep just three times in his first 16 games, Stanton has now gone yard in three consecutive games. The home run also marked the second in his career against Kershaw (who, by the way, hadn't allowed a three-run homer in the regular season since June 9, 2012).
