 The Rays swept two games from the Orioles in Tampa on August 25 and 26 (4-2 and 4-3). Baltimore has won five straight home games against Tampa Bay dating back to the end of last season. The O's have scored at least five runs in each game of the streak while the Rays haven't scored five runs in any.

 The Rays split a two-game home set with the Nationals, dropping the second game in 10 innings (4-2). Today will be Tampa Bay's second doubleheader this season (August 8 versus NYY, 1-1 split). Texas and Cleveland are the only American League teams which have played fewer (one each).

 The Orioles took two of three games from the Braves at Camden Yards. Baltimore sandwiched 14-1 and 5-1 victories around a 5-1 loss. The losing team in the O's last seven games has scored one run or fewer and exactly one run in the last six games. Baltimore is 2-5 in those seven games.

 Dean Kremer will make his third career start for Baltimore. Kremer has struck out exactly seven batters and allowed one earned run in each of his first two games. The last Oriole to begin an MLB career with 14 strikeouts and two ER or fewer in their first two games was Tom Phoebus in 1966 (15 K, 0 ER).

 Blake Snell is 4-1 with a 3.23 ERA in nine starts this season. However, he has yet to pitch 6.0+ innings in any game so far. Over the previous two seasons, Snell registered a quality start (6.0+ IP and 3 ER or fewer) in 29 of 54 starts.

Two teams with recent offensive problems will clash when the Tampa Bay Rays visit the Baltimore Orioles to open an unusual five-game series with a doubleheader on Thursday.
The Orioles have won three of five games against the Rays this season, and the home team has won every time. This is the first five-game series in the history of the Tampa Bay franchise, with the postponed game from Aug. 27 added on to the original schedule. The Rays will bat last in the second game on Thursday.

BALTIMORE (AP)  Having clinched a return trip to the postseason, the Tampa Bay Rays marked the occasion with a subdued celebration  on the field before heading to the clubhouse, where they slipped on hats and shirts that will serve as souvenirs of the accomplishment.
Make no mistake, the Rays are proud of what they've done, especially under circumstances that have never been faced by any baseball team before this year. After enduring a delayed start to the season, an unyielding battle to avoid COVID-19 and strange rules such as 7-inning doubleheaders, the Rays can only hope that this is merely the first of many goals to be met before the end of October.
