 These teams are scheduled to play five games over the next three days, but neither is expected to start its ace.  Jacob deGrom and Gerrit Cole rank first and third, respectively, in ERA since 2018 (minimum 300 IP): deGrom, 2.03; Justin Verlander, 2.56; Cole, 2.76.

 The Yankees lead the majors in home runs (619) during Aaron Boone's three seasons as manager. But their embrace of the longball comes at a cost: they rank 28th in singles this season (124), with only the Reds and Cardinals below them (110 each).

 Dominic Smith leads the Mets with six home runs in just 73 at-bats.  Smith's career rate of one HR per 18.1 ABs is equivalent to those of Shohei Ohtani (17.8 AB), George Springer (18.2) and Jorge Soler (18.3).

 Most players hit significantly better in wins than losses, but few have career splits as wide as Michael Conforto's: .328, 83 HR in wins, .187, 31 HR in losses.  Nineteen of Conforto's last 20 home runs were hit in Mets victories, dating back to July 2019.

 Both Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton are sidelined again.  The Yankees have an outstanding record with both sluggers in their starting lineup: 86--44 (.662) over three seasons.  But that accounts for only 37% of the team's games during that time (130 of 351).

 Jordan Montgomery started 29 games in 2017 (9--7, 3.88), tying German Marquez for the MLB lead among rookies.  He has pitched only 50.2 innings for the Yankees since then (TJ surgery in June 2018).

 Michael Wacha's 44--25 record from 2015--18 placed him 8th in the NL in winning percentage during that period (minimum 20 wins).  But he is 7--9 with a 4.93 ERA since then.
