 The Brewers took three games of a five-game set with the Cardinals last week, a series which included two doubleheaders. This series, scheduled for five games with a doubleheader on Friday, will be the Cardinals' fifth five-game series this season, the most by any team in a season since the 1958 Giants (5).

 The Brewers lost two of three to the Reds in Cincinnati. Milwaukee is 3-9 in its last 12 road games after going 9-5 in its first 14 road games of 2020. The Brewers' bullpen has a 7.01 ERA in the last 12 road games after having a 3.03 ERA in the first 14 road games.

 The Cardinals dropped two of three games against the Royals in Kansas City to end a 10-day, 13-game road trip (9/14 to 9/23, 7-6 record). St. Louis was outhomered 16-7 on the road trip and has a -17 home-run differential for the season, its worst through 53 games of a season since 1996 (-23).

 Corbin Burnes is 4-0 with a 0.30 ERA in his last five outings. The one earned run he has allowed across those five starts was against St. Louis on September 14. This is the second-lowest ERA by a Brewer across a five-start span all-time (1974, Jim Slaton -- 0.21 ERA).

 Kwang Hyun Kim allowed four earned runs at Pittsburgh on September 19, his first appearance with multiple earned runs this season (seven games, six starts). Kim's 1.59 ERA is the lowest rookie ERA in the big leagues (minimum 30.0 IP).

ST. LOUIS (AP)  Harrison Bader tripled and homered to help the St. Louis Cardinals clinch a postseason berth on the final day of the regular season with a 5-2 win over Milwaukee, and the Brewers also earned a playoff spot Sunday via help on the West Coast moments later.
St. Louis (30-28) will be the fifth seed in the NL and open a three-game wild-card series at San Diego on Wednesday. By winning, the Cardinals avoided having to travel to Detroit for two makeup games Monday. St. Louis finished the regular season with 23 games in 18 days as it made up a slew of postponements caused by a coronavirus outbreak in the clubhouse.
