 Over the 30 seasons from 1990 through 2019, there were only three in which both of MLB's Texas-based teams finished with a losing record: 2000--Hou 72--90, Tex 71--91; 2007--Hou 73--89, Tex 75--87; 2014--Hou 70--92, Tex 67--95.

 Houston scored only 25 runs in its last 10 games. Prior to their current slump, the Astros hadn't scored as few as 25 runs over 10 games in a single season since the summer of 2016 (23 runs, July 31--Aug. 9).

 The Rangers won seven of eight games from August 7-15. Excluding that stretch, Texas hasn't won consecutive games this season and enters tonight's game on a three-game losing streak.

 Rougned Odor has a .205 on-base percentage in 2020. Only three players in Rangers/Senators history finished a season with a lower OBP (minimum 100 PA): pitcher Claude Osteen, .188 (1964); Vic Harris, .192 (1972); and Ned Yost, .201 (1984).

Houston manager Dusty Baker announced early on Friday a contingency plan for his weekend rotation, with right-hander Chase De Jong in line to start Saturday in the event the Astros clinched a postseason berth on Friday night against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field.
The Astros (29-29) failed in their bid to secure the final American League postseason bid on their own accord, falling 5-4 in 10 innings after closer Ryan Pressly surrendered a game-tying solo homer to Rangers first baseman Ronald Guzman with two outs and two strikes in the ninth.

Astros face changing plans vs. Rangers after clinching playoff spot

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  Jeff Mathis hit a tie-breaking, three-run home run and Leody Taveras followed with a solo blast in a five-run seventh inning as the Texas Rangers beat the playoff-bound Houston Astros 6-1 on Saturday night.
Mathis homered to left center, his third of the season, against rookie Brandon Bielak (3-3) before Taveras hit his fourth off fellow rookie Andre Scrubb. Rougned Odor added a two-out RBI single.
