 Over the 30 seasons from 1990 through 2019, there were only three in which both of MLB's Texas-based teams finished with a losing record: 2000--Hou 72--90, Tex 71--91; 2007--Hou 73--89, Tex 75--87; 2014--Hou 70--92, Tex 67--95.

 Houston scored only 25 runs in its last 10 games. Prior to their current slump, the Astros hadn't scored as few as 25 runs over 10 games in a single season since the summer of 2016 (23 runs, July 31--Aug. 9).

 The Rangers won seven of eight games from August 7-15. Excluding that stretch, Texas hasn't won consecutive games this season and enters tonight's game on a three-game losing streak.

 Lance Lynn is tied for fourth in the AL in wins since joining the Rangers to start the 2018 season.  Kyle Tucker is tied for fifth in the AL with 42 RBI in 54 games this season. Over his first two seasons in the majors, Tucker drove in 15 runs in 50 games.

 Rougned Odor has a .205 on-base percentage in 2020. Only three players in Rangers/Senators history finished a season with a lower OBP (minimum 100 PA): pitcher Claude Osteen, .188 (1964); Vic Harris, .192 (1972); and Ned Yost, .201 (1984).

The Houston Astros squandered an opportunity to clinch a postseason berth on Wednesday and put themselves in a position to face a stressful four-game weekend series in Arlington.
By dropping the rubber match of their three-game series with the Seattle Mariners, the Astros (28-28) saw their magic number to secure second place in the American League West hold at two. Houston lost 3-2 and has scored more than three runs just four times over its last 16 games and five series.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  The Houston Astros are on the verge of clinching the American League's last playoff spot, powered by some of their mainstays in a breakout performance that certainly excited manager Dusty Baker.
''I'm just hoping that these guys are about to get hot,'' Baker said.
