 Kansas City has won a season-high six straight games, on the heels of a season-long seven-game losing streak. The Royals have allowed 2.3 runs per game during the win streak, compared to 7.3 per game in the losing streak.

 Detroit was outscored 23-5 in getting swept in three games by the White Sox over the weekend. The Tigers are 4-10 in September (tied with Astros for worst in AL) with an MLB-high 7.25 ERA.

 Jeimer Candelario ranks third in the American League -- and first among MLB switch-hitters -- with a .325 batting average. The only Tigers switch-hitter all-time to hit .325 or better in a qualifying season is Victor Martinez, who did so in both 2011 (.330) and 2014 (.335).

 Matthew Boyd's 7.63 ERA is the second highest among MLB pitchers with at least 40 innings pitched this year (Jordan Lyles, Tex -- 7.80). He's 5-9 with a 6.49 ERA in his career against the Royals, the highest ERA all-time by any pitcher with at least 15 starts against them.

 Adalberto Mondesi leads the majors with 16 stolen bases. The only Royals all-time to lead MLB in that category are Willie Wilson in 1979 (83) and Whit Merrifield in 2018 (45).

Royals carry streak, new hope into Tigers series

DETROIT (AP)  Miguel Cabrera hit a homer and a double to help the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 6-0 on Tuesday night.
Matthew Boyd (2-6) bounced back from a rough outing with a strong performance, throwing five-plus scoreless innings and giving up just two hits. Boyd allowed seven runs over three-plus innings in his previous start as Milwaukee beat Detroit 19-0 last week.
