 Texas swept the only series between these teams this year, a three-game set in Anaheim last month in which Los Angeles scored six runs combined. The Rangers edged the 2019 season series with the Angels, 10-9.

 The Rangers have lost six straight games and 18 of their last 21 going back to August 16. Their 13-27 record is the franchise's worst through 40 games in a season since also being 13-27 in 1985.

 The Angels have won a season-high five straight games, sweeping a four-game series with Houston over the weekend. The first three of those wins over Houston all came by one run, raising the Angels' one-run record to 8-7 -- tied for the third-most one-run wins in the majors.

 Mike Trout hit his 300th career home run on Saturday, setting the Angels' franchise record (Tim Salmon, 299). Only two active players reached 300 at a younger age than Trout (29 years, 29 days): current teammate Albert Pujols (28 years, 170 days) and Giancarlo Stanton (28 years, 295 days).

 Isiah Kiner-Falefa has hit safely in 10 straight games (16-for-40, .400), raising his average from .260 to the current .301. The only other qualifying third baseman with a higher average this season is the Rays' Yandy Diaz (.307; based on primary position played in 2020).

 Lance Lynn is 4-2 this year with a 2.67 ERA -- fourth best in the AL. All other Rangers starters have combined to go 2-19 with a 6.54 ERA (31 starts).

The Texas Rangers will host the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, trying to make the most of an otherwise forgettable season.
A possible positive for the Rangers (14-27) to come out of this season is an opportunity to speed up the development process of Anderson Tejeda. The 22-year-old infielder played Class-A ball last season and was slated to spend this season in Double-A.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)  Isiah Kiner-Falefa matched a career high with four hits, Nick Solak drove in a pair of runs and the Texas Rangers had a few rookies get some big firsts in a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.
John King (1-0) gave up one unearned run over two innings to get his first big league victory, Eli White's first career hit was an RBI double in a decisive five-run fifth inning, and speedy center fielder Leody Taveras stole home.
