 The Twins have won seven of the last eight games in the series, outscoring the Redbirds, 36-14; in six of those of eight games, St. Louis scored zero or one run. The teams last squared off in St. Louis in May 2018, with the Twins sweeping a two-game series by a combined 13-1 score.

 Since August 25, Minnesota is 6-2 with a 3.13 ERA at home, compared to 0-5 with a 6.00 ERA away from Target Field. This is the Twins' longest road losing streak since they dropped eight in a row in September 2018.

The Twins (26-17) are one game off the lead in the American League Central. The Cardinals (17-16) are in second place in the National League Central, 2 1/2 games off the pace.
