 If the Orioles parlay their 5--2 lead into a win in today's completion of a game suspended on Aug. 9, that would complete a three-game sweep against the Nats. It would also mean the O's had either swept or been swept in five consecutive series, something no team has done since the start of the 2019 season.

 Baltimore won its first three games of a season against Washington as recently as 2016, and would do so again by winning the suspended game. Looking ahead, the Orioles have never won their first four games of a season against the Nationals or Expos.

 Southpaw Tommy Milone will start tonight's game for the Orioles. Washington has the highest batting average vs. left-handers in MLB (.304) but ranks 22nd among 30 teams against right-handers (.228).

 Stephen Strasburg was credited with 106 victories from 2012 to 2019, which was the second-highest eight-year total in franchise history behind only Steve Rogers (114 wins for the Expos from 1976 to 1983).

 Anthony Santander ranks second in the AL with 19 RBIs—one fewer than Aaron Judge—and has driven in at least one run in each of his last seven games.  The last Orioles player with an eight-game RBI streak was Jonathan Schoop (2017); the last to drive in runs in nine straight games was Miguel Tejada (2005).  Santander already has an RBI in the Aug. 9 game; he cannot extend the streak in today's resumption.

 Juan Soto has 5 HR, 10 RBIs, and a .414 batting average in 8 games this season.  The only player in franchise history to go 5/10/.400 or better in the Triple Crown categories over his first 10 games of a season was Bryce Harper in 2013.

After losing a game, winning a game and losing two mainstays to injuries Friday night, the Washington Nationals will look for more stability when they face the host Baltimore Orioles again on Saturday.
On Friday, the teams completed a game that was started on Sunday, and the Orioles finished with a 6-2 win that technically was part of the earlier series. The Nationals bounced back with a 15-3 victory later Friday in the regularly scheduled game, thanks to six players who knocked in two runs apiece.

BALTIMORE (AP)  The unpredictable nature of this wacky baseball season can best be summed up by the current status of a team that's coming off two straight 100-loss seasons and a club that last fall won its first World Series.
Hard to imagine, but the rebuilding Baltimore Orioles are contenders and the defending champion Washington Nationals are sitting in last place.
