 The Braves won six of 10 home games against the Mets last year. The Braves hit 21 homers in those games, including six (with two each by Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson) in a 10--8 loss when these teams last met in Atlanta, last Aug. 15 (Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario each had five hits in that game).

 The Mets' starting staff looks different this year, with Zach Wheeler in Philadelphia and Marcus Stroman and Noah Syndergaard injured. This will likely be the Mets' first series of three or more games in the last three seasons in which neither Wheeler, Syndergaard nor Jacob deGrom (who pitched Wednesday) starts.

 Ronald Acuna is 4-for-28 with no RBIs and an MLB-high 14 strikeouts. Since MLB began to track RBIs 100 years ago, just 10 others—including two Hall of Famers—struck out at least 14 times with no RBIs in their first seven games of a season. Not surprisingly those HOF'ers were pitchers: Tom Seaver (1968) & Sandy Koufax (1962 and 1965); Koufax had an MLB-record total of 18 strikeouts in his first seven games in ‘62.

 Yoenis Cespedes celebrated the arrival of the universal DH by homering in the Mets' 1--0 season-opening win over Atlanta. Only two other DHs for NL teams homered in a 1--0 game: Matt Holliday for St. Louis against the Rays in 2014, and Sherman Obando for the Expos at Baltimore in 1997.

 Rick Porcello's greatest ability has been his availability.  Porcello made 339 starts over his first 11 seasons in the majors (2009--19); that's 30.8 starts per season. Only five others averaged 30 starts over those 11 years: Justin Verlander, 32.4; Jon Lester, 32.0; Max Scherzer, 31.7; Zack Greinke, 31.3; Cole Hamels, 30.6.

 Sean Newcomb has pitched more innings against the Mets (44.1) than against any other MLB team. Over eight starts and six relief appearances against the Mets, Newcomb allowed only one home run in 161 opponents' at-bats -- Todd Frazier hit that one in New York on June 30 of last year.

The Atlanta Braves look to continue building momentum while the visiting New York Mets will try to stop a brief slide when the division rivals meet again Friday.
The four-game series will mark the second time the National League East foes have played this season and will be their only series in Atlanta. The clubs met in a three-game set to open the season, with the Braves winning the last two games at Citi Field.

Mets' Porcello looks to bounce back vs. Braves

ATLANTA (AP)  Former Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud drove in five runs, including three with a bases-loaded double that capped a five-run eighth, and the Atlanta Braves rallied from a six-run deficit for a wild 11-10 win over New York on Friday night.
D'Arnaud had three hits. The biggest was the double off Seth Lugo that gave Atlanta the lead and completed the comeback from deficits of 8-2 and 10-5.
