 The Rockies and Rangers last met in 2018 in Texas with the Rangers taking two of three games. In the deciding game of the series, Wade Davis blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning and lost the game, 13-12, allowing the walkoff hit to Jose Trevino. That is the most recent of four occasions when the Rockies have been walked-off in the ninth after entering the bottom half with a lead of 3+ runs.

 The 2019 Rockies finished fourth in the NL West at 71-91 following a wild card berth in 2018 after losing the division title in a Game 163 (91-72). Colorado is one of two current franchises to have never won their division (Miami Marlins, both franchises began in 1993).

 The 2019 Texas Rangers finished third in the AL West at 78-84, an improvement of 11 wins from their 67-95 finish in 2018. The Rangers were 10 games over .500 (46-36) thru June 28 of last season, but went just 32-48 (.400) the rest of the way.

 German Marquez went 12-5 in 2019 before an injury ended his season in late August. His .706 winning percentage is the fourth highest in a single season in Rockies history behind Denny Stark in 2002 (.733), Jorge De La Rosa in 2013 (.727) and Kyle Freeland in 2018 (.708; minimum 15 decisions).

 Lance Lynn had a 3.67 ERA and struck out 246 batters in 208.1 innings in 2019 (10.63 K/9, highest of his career). His career-best FIP (fielding-independent pitching) of 3.16 ranked third among qualified American League pitchers behind Gerrit Cole (2.68) and Charlie Morton (2.85).

 Joey Gallo and Trevor Story both reached 100 career home runs in May of last season. Gallo, who is up to 110 home runs, reached the 100-HR mark in 377 games, fifth fastest in MLB history. Story, who is up to 123 career home runs, reached the milestone in 448 games, fastest in MLB history by a middle infielder (based on career position).

The official opening of Globe Life Field was expected to be packed with fans at the start of a 162-game season that spanned six months. Instead, a truncated 2020 campaign will break in the new home for the Texas Rangers.
Things will be much different than hoped at the $1.2 billion stadium for the rebooted Opening Day of the 2020 baseball season. The Rangers play their first regular-season game at their new ballpark in Arlington against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, but the 40,300 seats will be devoid of fans, and the only cheering will come from piped-in crowd noise.

Lance Lynn struck out nine over six solid innings and the Texas Rangers inaugurated their retractable-roof stadium with a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.
