 The Red Sox and Giants meet for the first time since 2016, when Boston swept a two-game series at Fenway Park and split two games in San Francisco. This season, the Red Sox have won six of their last seven games against NL teams, averaging 6.0 runs in those contests, while the Giants are 5-1 in their last six interleague games, averaging 6.5 runs.

 The Giants have hit just 10 homers in September, tied with the Pirates for the fewest in the majors this month, but the Red Sox haven't been much better with 14 home runs, tied with the Tigers for the fewest by an AL team.

 Eduardo Rodriguez, who is scheduled to start Thursday's finale, has a 1.15 ERA with 44 strikeouts over 39 innings in his last six starts. In nine starts since August 1, Rodriguez has surrendered just four home runs -- tied with three other pitchers for the fewest in the AL among those with at least 45 innings.

 Meanwhile, Madison Bumgarner, who will oppose Rodriguez, has served up a homer in a career-high seven straight starts. In 10 starts dating to July 28, Bumgarner has a 1.54 ERA and 0.63 WHIP in five games in San Francisco but a 6.75 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in five road outings.

 Rafael Devers leads the AL with 328 total bases and Xander Bogaerts ranks third with 315. They are the first pair of Red Sox infielders to have at least 315 total bases in a season since 1998, when Nomar Garciaparra and Mo Vaughn did it.

 Evan Longoria is slashing .196/.268/.314 with five RBI in 14 games this month after compiling a .345/.372/.529 slash line with 20 RBI in 22 August games. He has a .964 OPS in 55 Giants wins this season compared to a .582 OPS in 64 losses.

Retirement is just around the corner for San Francisco Giants skipper Bruce Bochy, yet the 64-year-old is still every bit the tactician who has managed a Hall of Fame career over the past 25 years.
Bochy proved as much Tuesday night, tying a major league record by using 13 pitchers in a 7-6, 15-inning victory over the host Boston Red Sox. He employed four pitchers in the 13th inning alone, barked in the dugout when his moves didn't pan out and couldn't help but make jokes postgame as he earned the 1,999th victory of his illustrious career.

Bochy pursues 2,000th win as Giants face Red Sox

BOSTON (AP)  The San Francisco Giants helped manager Bruce Bochy reach yet another milestone before his retirement at the end of the season.
San Francisco's 11-3 rout of the Red Sox on Wednesday night was Bochy's 2,000th career victory as a manager in the majors.
