 These teams have split 16 meetings in 2019, but Colorado has lost six of the last eight as it tries to win the season series against San Diego for the fourth consecutive year. The Rockies have won 20 of the last 30 matchups at Coors Field.

 San Diego struck out a season-high 19 times Thursday in a 4-1 loss to the Cubs and settled for a four-game split. Barring an outstanding final two-plus weeks, the Padres will finish with their ninth straight losing season, a stretch beaten only by the Marlins (10).

 Colorado was unable to complete a sweep of the Cardinals on Thursday, allowing five homers in a 10-3 loss. Since August 22, the Rockies are a major league-worst 4-16 but they do own the majors' best winning percentage at .833 (15-3) on games played on Friday the 13th since 2000.

 Jeff Hoffman, Friday's projected starter, has a 7.06 ERA this season for the highest in the NL of any pitcher with at least 10 starts. His 5.97 ERA as a starter since 2017 is the third-worst among active pitchers during that span (minimum 25 starts).

 Wil Myers, who had his 11-game hitting streak snapped Thursday, is batting .424 (25-for-59) with five home runs and 11 RBI this season against the Rockies. In his last 10 starts at Colorado, Myers is 19-for-47 (.404) with eight multi-hit games.

 Nolan Arenado is one home run away from joining Albert Pujols (7) and Khris Davis (3) as the only active players with three 40-homer seasons. Arenado has reached base in 17 straight games and is slashing .407/.486/.831 during that span. He leads the majors with 17 home runs since the start of August.

The Colorado Rockies have had a season to forget, but they have a chance to gain some much-needed momentum in their penultimate home series of the year.
Colorado has gone from postseason contenders to near the bottom of the NL since late June, and its play at home is a big reason. The Rockies are 38-36 at Coors Field this season, a place where they've dominated over the years.

DENVER (AP)  Ryan McMahon filled in for Nolan Arenado in the field and did a spot-on impersonation of the slugger at the plate.
McMahon hit two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Colorado Rockies over the San Diego 10-5 on Sunday for a three-game sweep that ensured the Padres' ninth straight season without a winning record.
